Frequently Asked Questions

When to consider urgent care for injuries?

When an injury is sudden and requires attention, but an appointment with your primary doctor would take too long, an urgent care center such as CareFirst can provide you with fast care from expert doctors that are trained and equipped to diagnose and treat a wide range of injuries.

Should I go to urgent care for a strain?

It is worth going to urgent care for a strained muscle if pain, swelling, or discomfort worsens after 1-2 days when the strain happens. If traditional methods of at home treatment including elevation, ice, and rest are not alleviating symptoms then it could be a sign of a more severe injury that an urgent care can help to identify and treat.

Should I go to urgent care if it hurts to walk?

If you are unable to put weight on a leg because of an injury, then you should visit one of our urgent care centers. If you are unable to put weight down, such as a potential strain, if discomfort has not improved for 1-2 days or has gotten worse over time after rest, ice, and elevation, then you should visit an urgent care center.

Can urgent care treat burns?

CareFirst Urgent care provides specialized treatment for both 1st and 2nd degree burns. Burn symptoms may include pain, swelling, blisters, blotchy skin, or drainage. In these cases, urgent care centers can help to clean the wound, apply sterile dressing, and can prescribe antibiotics to prevent chances of infection.

When should I visit an urgent care for lacerations?

Most lacerations on the body and even head can be quickly and effectively treated with stitches (sutures) or stapling at an urgent care with no or minimal scarring. Urgent cares offer shorter wait times and require no appointment to visit making them an ideal option for lacerations.

Does insurance cover urgent care treatments for injuries?

Most urgent care centers accept insurance coverage for injuries. CareFirst Urgent Care is proud to accept all insurances, including Medicare and in-state Medicaid! Depending on the insurance plan, patients may be responsible for fees such as deductibles or copays.
